The stacked take. “This season is STACKED.” Every season is stacked. I’ve been watching this for months, and “stacked” is a constant. The word means nothing anymore; it’s a weather report for people who like hype.

The dead take. “Nothing worth watching this season.” The annual tradition of announcing the death of anime, which has died thirty-seven times and is doing fine.

The streamer subplot. Every season also brings the debate about which platform carries what, who licensed the good show, and whether the industry is collapsing this week. Netflix takes, specifically, arrive like clockwork: either “they saved anime” or “they’re killing anime,” depending on which show got renewed.
