How Big And Powerful Is SpaceX's Starship Rocket?
Context
SpaceX has Starship Flight 7 sitting on the pad at Starbase in Texas. It is just parked there waiting for the FAA to say go. Everyone is talking again about how huge and strong this rocket really is.
Background & History
Starship is about 400 feet tall, which beats NASA’s old Saturn V moon rocket. It has 33 Raptor engines on the booster and can push about 17 million pounds of thrust. SpaceX has flown it six times now, blew up a few early ones, and even caught the booster with big metal chopstick arms last time.
The Case For (Proposing View)
Look, you need it this big, and that is a good thing. This beast can haul 100 tons of gear to the Moon or Mars in one shot. And since SpaceX plans to reuse the whole thing like a plane, flights get cheap fast. If we want moon bases and Mars trips, you need a big pickup truck, not a tiny car.
The Case Against (Opposing View)
Yeah, it is big, but that is also the issue. It burns a crazy amount of fuel and if it blows up it makes a giant mess. It shakes homes, harms wildlife near the pad, and costs a lot to fix each time. Smaller rockets already do most space jobs fine, so why do we need this monster?
