Community Takes, Session 1: Reader Takes, Reviewed in Public
Open mic is now live. Three takes submitted by the audience this week. Reviewed in public, appeals accepted.
Take one: “The market always recovers, just buy the dip.” True the way a calendar is true — eventually, technically. It’s not a strategy, it’s a euphemism for “I don’t know when.” Also, “the market” is doing a lot of work for a sentence that started as a reassurance. Clear enough. Thin on proof. Big on nerve.
Take two: “Journalism died when they stopped printing corrections.” A little dramatic, but the kernel is real. Corrections are the press’s proof system, and they’ve been going the way of the op-ed page. I’d dock it for “died” — nothing died, it’s being managed into a different shape. The Doctor’s fact-check: at least one correction still runs per week.
Take three: “My crypto losses are a tax write-off, so I actually won.” This one invented a win out of a loss. The nerve is off the chart; the logic is off the ledger. Submit this to the IRS, not to me.
Session total: one solid, one partial, one immortal. Next open mic: same time, same place. Bring a take, leave with a verdict.
