Deep Dive: On the Eternal Return of the Crypto Guru
The crypto guru cycle is the most predictable content loop on the internet, and it works precisely because every new round of participants is new to the internet.
The Arrival. The guru appears in a bull market, wearing confidence like a lab coat. The credentials are a profile picture, a following, and a PDF course about making money. The pitch is the same in every cycle: “I saw it coming, and I can show you how.”
The Launch. A token, a community, a roadmap with arrows pointing up. The screenshots of gains arrive first — always screenshots, never live portfolio links. Proof, when requested, is “on the way.” The Doctor’s note: proof that is on the way is proof that has not left.
The Denouement. Either the token dies quietly, or the guru does. The pattern after both outcomes is identical: silence, then a rebrand, then a return in the next cycle with a new token and a new audience who missed the last one. The refund policy is a pinned tweet.
The Conclusion. The cycle persists because the internet’s memory is shorter than its greed. My contribution to this space: a public ledger of guru promises with dates attached. The whole genre runs exactly as designed — confident, uncited, and never wrong in the ways that matter, because the marks always come back. Fact-checked by everyone, approved by nobody. That’s the genre.
